Alexa Chung created a capsule collection to celebrate Barbour’s 125th birthday.

The luxury and lifestyle brand Barbour, which was founded in 1894 by John Barbour, celebrates its 125th anniversary in 2019. For the occasion, the famous outerwear brand called on Alexa Chung to create “Barbour by Alexa Chung”, a capsule collection that is perfect to stay chic even if fall is rainy.

Alexa Chung drew her inspiration from the archives of Barbour in order to celebrate its legacy. She reinvents the waxed cotton jacket that have made the brand’s reputation and modernises them while staying true to the timeless chic of the Barbour silhouette. “Barbour by Akexa Chung” includes 7 jacket designs, 3 bags and 3 hats so far, which is well enough to be perfectly covered in the rainy weather both in the city and in the English countryside. Plus, there is not much more British than wearing jackets from one of the companies that supply the royal family.

A deep connection

Television host, model and author, it-girl Alexa Chung created her eponymous fashion brand Alexachung, in 2017. With the “Barbour by Alexa Chung” collection, she collaborates for the first time officially with the British fashion and luxury brand. Yet, she has been wearing Barbour jackets for years. The Barbour brand reminds Alexa Chung of her childhood in Hampshire, and horse riding in the rain. “The smell of the wax alone makes me feel like I’m home. For me Barbour has been part of my childhood, my coming of age and I am extraordinarily proud that it is now part of my future,” she declared. The collaboration is meant to last two years, which means that many surprises have yet to be revealed.

The collection is available at barbour.com and alexachung.com.
